The individual or group whose hardware is selected to verify a block’s transaction is called a ‘block producer’. It is only upon verification that the next block is released on the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) Blockchain. Oftentimes, block producers are also termed as witnesses or delegates.

Block producers play a crucial role in the overall network functionality. They are responsible for the collection and storage of the transaction data to validate them at the Blockchain network.

Although the selection of a block producer is completely random, there are still some variables to account for. The total amount invested by the individual/ group, the overall duration of the stake along the node’s reputation is considered while choosing a block producer.
