Decentralized Social Media
Author: Rubin
Any social media platform built around distributed ledger technology (DLT) like blockchain is known as decentralized social media. This ensures that all activities in the platform are overseen by a decentralized protocol, without any central authority to control like Facebook or Twitter.
With conventional social media platforms, companies can control the user’s posts, regulating the platform for revenue generation. Decentralized social platforms on the other hand give complete freedom to their users, letting them interact however they want.
Decentralized platforms can also prevent the unauthorized sale of user data, which is often associated with centralized platforms. Still, these platforms have their own sets of shortcoming, which needs to be addressed before they become mainstream.
